Mock DIRT 2

3. in this question you will be rewarded for drawing together elements from your full course of study, including different areas of the theatrical framework and media contexts.

How far does the extract try to create a sense it is portraying 'real life'?

In your answer you must:
x analyse aspects of the extract giving detailed examples
x judge how far these aspects create a sense of watching 'real'

Some relevant points but you need to:
- use more camera, sound and editing terminology
- use more examples from the text
& discuss how miss-en-scene e.g.
- setting (police station/hospital/beach/flat)
- costumes (uniform)
- props (police cars/weapons/radios)
add realism.

This extract creates a sense that it is portraying real life through how it handles serious topics and situations and how it creates a setting and scenarios that mimic real life through the use of miss-en-scene.

The extract shows understanding of how the police force works in real life, as all of the officers shown understand police protocols, such as when to use the sirens, depicted through diegetic sound, and how to protect civilians. There is also the professional use of the military alphabet, evidenced through the diegetic dialogue where Ryan says "Kilo 220", which is a practise actual police forces use in real life.

The set design also accurately portrays real life, as it mimics how the offices and desks would be organised, down to the individual details like pencils on desks and the boards full of mug shots of suspects. There are other settings that have been accurately recreated, such as a hospital and a beach, which all contribute to creating a believable realistic fictional world.
